KEY THINGS
I’VE LEARNED
ALONG THE
WAY
Don’t be afraid to reiterate a point, recap after a meeting, or ask questions. Kick offs and post-mortems are your friend. Clarity is an invaluable piece of currency in the world of collaboration, and saves time, energy, and stress for everyone involved.
Failure is your friend.
We all hope to succeed 100% of the time, but a fear of failure can often be counterproductive; trying things outside of our comfort zone is necessary for growth, and anxiety discourages this. An instict to avoid failure is perfectly natural, as failture usually isn’t very pleasant, but it can be a wonderful teacher; it gives us the rare opportunity recalibrate for the future.
Context is king.
Will your work be seen by a broad audience, or a niche group of Financial Services professionals at a conference? If you're designing digital ads, how targeted are they? If it's physical signage, from how far away should it be readable, and what’s the main takeaway or call to action? In order for a design to be effective, we need to understand who will see it, and how they will experience it.
